Woodland Vortex – Immersive Timber Tunnel Walkway
Project type
Garden Structure
Location
Cumbria
Design Brief:
Design and construct a striking timber walkway structure that blends art, architecture, and nature. The installation should create a visually captivating, tunnel-like experience that encourages exploration and engagement within a woodland environment. Key elements include:
• Geometric timber framework forming a vortex-style tunnel that twists organically through the forest path.
• Elevated boardwalk with angular design to follow the natural contours of the ground.
• Open sides and overhead framing to allow dappled light and interaction with the surrounding trees and plants.
• Materials sourced sustainably and treated for outdoor longevity.
• Intended for public interaction—encouraging walking, pausing, photography, and a connection to the natural landscape.
The design should evoke curiosity and wonder, drawing inspiration from natural forms (like tree rings or whirlpools) and promoting outdoor mindfulness and adventure. The structure should harmonise with its environment while standing out as a unique architectural feature.
